Why We Built TheRox

We kept losing ten minutes at the start of every workout, and had no idea if our form was any good. So we built the app we wanted. Here's the thinking behind it.

Every workout used to start the same way. Open one app for the video. Switch to another to check the plan. Scroll past three months of saved posts to find the one clip you actually wanted. Ten minutes gone before the first rep.

That was the itch. TheRox is what we built to scratch it.

The problem we kept hitting

The best coaching on earth is already free. It's on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, made by people who are very good at what they do. The problem was never a lack of content. It was that the content lived everywhere, and none of those apps were built for the gym floor.

Saved videos got buried. Playlists didn't map to how you actually train. And the second you opened one of those apps mid-session, the feed pulled you somewhere else entirely.

We wanted one focused place. Your coaches, organized by exercise and by creator, ready before you walked in.

Three tools that never lived together

The more we looked, the more we noticed that the things a serious lifter needs were scattered across separate products:

  • Video curation: a few apps let you save links, but none organized them for training.
  • Form feedback: the only real option was paying a coach, or guessing.
  • Planning and accountability: trackers existed, but they didn't know anything about your videos.

No single app did all three. So you either paid for several, or you did what most people do and just winged it.

TheRox puts them under one roof: a Vault for your videos, an AI Form Tracker for your technique, a weekly Planner, and Gym Rat challenges to keep you honest with friends.

On-device, by principle

The AI Form Tracker is the piece we're most careful about. Point your phone at yourself, and it scores your squat, deadlift, overhead press, or curl in real time: rep counts, joint angles, depth.

Here's the part that matters: it never leaves your phone.

Pose estimation runs entirely on-device with TensorFlow Lite. No frames are uploaded. Nothing is stored on a server. Nothing is sent to a third party. The only thing that gets saved is the resulting numbers, your scores, to your own account.

What "primal tech" means

Our whole ethos fits in one line: primal instinct meets algorithmic precision. Train like a beast, track like a scientist.

That tension shows up everywhere in the app. It's dark by default, easier on the eyes under gym lighting, and it saves battery on the camera-heavy screens. It's built for big touch targets and fast decisions, not for scrolling. And the data is the hero: your streak, your form score, your week, front and center.

We're not trying to be a soft wellness app, and we're not trying to be a loud bro-brand either. We're building the performance lab you carry in your pocket.

Where we are now

The core is already real. Auth, the Vault, the weekly Planner, the home dashboard, tier limits, and Gym Rat challenges are all shipping. The AI Form Tracker supports four lifts today, with more to come.

We're building the rest in public: Stripe payments, the store launches, and everything you'll read about here. This blog is where we'll show the work: what we ship, what we get wrong, and what we learn.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, get in early.
